Before a good database an be implemented, it must be properly planned. Planning for a database should include data back up and recovery. Imagine if you stored all your vital information in a database and something happened to that database causing you to lose all of your information. That could definitely have a negative impact on your business.
That is why people should have numerous databases available to them. Having just one database is just asking for trouble. You want your data to have back ups, and if you can, those back ups to have back ups. Any competent database administrator will see to it that there are numerous databases in place. They may even have a physical database on site, and a virtual database off site. So if anything ever physically happens to the database on site, such as a fire, the data for the business is safe and secure off site and can be readily accessed from a computer anywhere. Having more than one database is just smart business.
